2023 SPA Mick McGoldrick Individual Membership Series of Events The SPA are delighted to announce that McGoldrick’s Pool and Sports Bar, Rutherglen, Glasgow will be continuing their proud sponsorship of the 2023 SPA Mick McGoldrick IM Series. National Finals There will be FOUR events again in 2023, each of these will count towards a players' ranking in the series, in addition the Scottish Singles also counts towards each players ranking. Every player is awarded Merit or Ranking Points determined by their position in each event. The National Finals shall be held on the following dates:- Event 1: 22nd & 23rd April (Players Lounge, Falkirk) Event 2: 3rd & 4th June (Corner Pocket, Dalkieth) Event 3: 9th & 10th September (Shotz, Aberdeen) Event 4: 14th & 15th October (McGoldrick’s, Glasgow) The National Finals will have 128 qualifiers, where the Top 16 from the 2022 rankings are automatic and joined by 112 qualifiers from all over Scotland. In the local qualifying, matches will start as races to seven. Areas shall still be awarded a pro-rata of qualifiers based upon their entries, the more entries an area has, the more qualifiers they shall likely receive for the National Finals. Entry Costs Entry for the 2023 Series are frozen and remain at £25 per player out with the automatic qualifiers. The entry fee for an automatic qualifier is £75. In addition, each player will have to pay their £5 SPA Member Registration. This is still one of the best value tournaments on offer with all entry money taken in being paid out. Entry is via the nominated SPA IM Reps for each area. Draws One half of the draw will be played down to the semi-finals on the Saturday, with the opposite half of the draw and event played to a finish on the Sunday. In essence keeping this a one-day event for the majority of players. Draws will remain seeded. No-Shows Any player that cannot attend the National Finals must inform the SPA a minimum of twenty four hours in advance. Any player that fails to notify the SPA in this time period shall be given a warning. Any player that has received a warning, who fails to notify the SPA in subsequent events shall be removed from the remainder of the IM season in that calendar year. Should a players suspension be incurred at event four then they shall be suspended for the first two IM events from when they next register to compete. Payment Information Anyone wishing to participate in the 2023 Mick McGoldrick IM Series of Events must register with their IM Rep. Remember, anyone who misses this deadline shall miss the entire 2023 Series. Entries will close at 12 Noon on Sunday 11th December, but please note IM Reps may have a deadline which is before this to allow cleared payment to reach the SPA Accounts prior to the SPA Payment deadline. As a reminder, no cash entries are accepted. IM Reps The entry and payment deadline is Sunday 11th December 2022. Reps must ensure cleared funds have reached the SPA Accounts no later than the deadline. Please note that a full list of entries must also be sent to spa-im@hotmail.co.uk before the deadline. What a weekend for Arbroath Pool. We had the highest number of entries for the SPA Malky Cowan competition, giving us the biggest representation at a national finals! By jings did they shine through! Some great performances throughout from our guys who made it, BUT; what an effort from the finalists! That’s right, both players from our area!!! 👏 Well done to both Steve Hamilton and Paddy Nicoll who put together a great run to bump into each other at the last hurdle. Team mates locally made this one a bit more sentimental for a few. Both players put on a great showing, but Steve pushed through to secure himself the national title. Very unlucky to Paddy. He’ll be back there or thereabouts in upcoming tournaments that’s for sure. For the time being, Ladies and Gentleman, the 2022 SPA MALKY COWAN TROPHY CHAMPION - STEVE HAMILTON!!!

The SPA have just announced that the Superleague events are returning. The Super 15's will be held during November. Arbroath will require to indicate their desired number of teams to be participating by Sunday 4th September. Can players who are keen to represent Arbroath at National level please post their interest below. You must ensure you can make all dates as it's unsure what events the teams will be placed in at this stage.
